The Australian Skilled Regional Subclass 887 Visa provides permanent residency to those who possess a subclass of bridging visa and have lived and worked in a specified area or a regional area of Australia with low population growth. The Skilled Regional Subclass 887 Visa permits you and your accompanying family to live and work in Australia indefinitely.  It is also a second-stage visa that grants permanent residency to holders of skilled regional provisional visas, such as:

Australian Skilled Regional Subclass 887 Visa Eligibility Criteria

  • You must currently have a skilled subclass visa and hold any one of the visas for at least two years from one of the following subclasses:
    • Skilled Regional (Provisional) Subclass 489
    • Skilled Regional Sponsored (Subclasses 475 and 487).
    • Skilled Designated Area Sponsored Subclass 496.
    • Skilled Independent Regional Subclass 495
  • You’ve been in Australia for the past two years on a provisional skilled visa. During this period, you must have resided in a rural or low population growth area of Australia (if sponsored by a State or Territory Government) or a Designated Area (if sponsored by an Australian relative).

  • You must have worked in Australia for at least 12 months; this experience does not have to be in a skilled occupation, but it must be full-time (at least 35 hours per week) and in the above-mentioned regional location.
  • The Bridging Visa A (BVA) or Bridging Visa B (BVB), which is granted, must be related to your application for any of the subclass visas 487, 489, or 489.

  • The Bridging Visa A allows you to remain in Australia even if your current substantive visa expires and you have applied for a new one, which is currently being processed. If you apply for a substantive visa in Australia while you still hold a substantive visa, the visa might be issued. However, if you leave Australia with this visa, you will be unable to return. The BVA ends when you receive your substantive visa or are awarded a BVB.

 

  • The Bridging Visa B on the other hand, permits you to return to Australia while your substantive visa application is being processed. However, in order to stay in the nation until your substantive visa application is approved, you must return within a certain time frame. However, once the BVB is issued, the travel time is neither modified nor extended in this scenario.
